It was our first dance festival, at the Hotel Iluna Alcora in San Juan de Aznalfarache. Salsa dance workshops all day, and social dancing all night, for the weekend. I'd just finished attending a fun workshop and stopped to compliment the teacher on my way out.
I'm not sure how we got there but we ended up grabbing a nearby couch, and had what is still one of my most gratifying conversations. We talked for four hours, covering everything from where we come from to how we percieve dance.
Importantly, he told me his truth; that life, as in dance, is essentially about the rhythm with which things are done. And that happiness comes from finding, or changing one's daily rhythm. Six years on, this is still one of the greatest insights of my life.
